The Nyko company has launched a very large number of accessories for Nintendo's Wii gaming console over time, but one particular model (the Wing, launched in September 2008) is actually a masterpiece, being superior in pretty much every aspect to the original accessory launched by Nintendo, whether we're talking about the design, aesthetics or the overall level of functionality and comfort during use.
Thus, the Wing is a wireless controller that borrows the shape and functions of the Wii Classic Controller, but adds a touch of originality and, as well as a very important lack of wires. Like the original accessory, the Nyko Wing is designed to work with the “oldies, but goldies” games available from Nintendo via the Wii’s Virtual Console and WiiWare channels.
Unlike other similar products, which connect directly to the gaming console, the Wing is actually linked (albeit wirelessly) to the Wii Remote. And that's because it comes with a dongle that easily attaches to the bottom of the Wii Remote and provides wireless play with a range of up to 10 feet (around 3 meters) from the Remote.
The device sports a couple of highly responsive analog sticks, face buttons, triggers and navigation buttons, which allow users to easily control both games and system menus. Furthermore, it requires a relatively low amount of power for normal functioning, since the 2 rechargeable AAA batteries included in the package will power the Wing for up 30 hours. When the batteries run out, they can be very easily recharged by using any USB to Mini USB Cable.
The Nyko Wing sells for around 30 US dollars, which, after all, isn't even that high a sum, given just how useful and interesting this thing could prove to be for those gamers who simply can't live withouth enjoying some of those classics games from Nintendo. |
