The Cyborg evo series of joysticks from Saitek has recorded quite a high level of success over the years, providing gamers with advanced control features and a high level of control/command customization. Although most of the devices from this series used the USB 2.0 interface in order to connect to the host computer, there was also a notable exception, namely the Cyborg evo Wireless Joystick, released in the second half of 2004, which offered users the level of freedom provided by radio communications.
And that's because this particular model has been equipped with a 2.4GHz RF Wireless module, which has a 30 feet (10 meter) range, a distance that can prove to be quite enough for most users. Plus, for total freedom, the peripheral is battery powered, a single AA battery providing around 50 hours of continuous functioning time.
Although it has a few minor design modifications, the Cyborg evo Wireless Joystick is almost identical to its other siblings from the point of view of available buttons. Thus, if we take a very good look at this peripheral, we'll find a rapid-fire trigger, 5 fire buttons, 8-way “point-of-view” hat switch, 3D twist for rudder control, 2 x 8-way Hat Switches, a 3D rudder twist, 2 shift buttons and 4 base buttons.
Similar to the other models from the series, the Cyborg evo Wireless Joystick also supports an extensive level of customization, practically each and every button of the many listed above being programmable (by using Saitek's Smart Technology (SST) software).
Cyborg evo Wireless Joystick can still be found at several retailers for around 50 US dollars, which is a fairly OK price point, given the fact that this thing can actually severely alter (for the better) one's gaming experience. |
