The BenQ company has released a very large number of display solutions over the past few years, whether we're talking about projectors, PC monitors, etc., and more than a few LCD TV sets. Their VL4233 model, released back in the second half of 2006, is a device that offers mainstream users a rather OK viewing space at quite a reasonable price tag.
The first (and most important) selling point of the VL4233 is related, quite obviously, to the device's display, namely a 42-inch LCD which supports a maximum resolution of around 1366 x 768 pixels and offers a maximum brightness level of around 500 nits. Furthermore, the device sports an 1200:1 contrast ratio, 178-degree horizontal and vertical viewing angles, as well as an 8 ms response time.
It's also important to note that the VL4233 incorporates AMVA technology, which provides high contrast ratio by using an optimized color resist implementation and new pixel design. Furthermore, the Senseye Contrast Enhancement processes bright and dark image areas separately in an attempt to display more details
in high contrast images.
Moreover, the TV set also sports numerous other image processing functions, including here 10-bit color processing, intelligent noise reduction, sharpness enhancement, motion optimization, auto-contrast enhancement, 3D Y/C comb filter, de-interlacing and dark enhancement.
The TV set from BenQ has also been equipped with several interesting audio features, namely Virtual Dolby Surround, delivered via the 2 x 10W speakers. Moreover, users can also choose their desired audio mode (depending on the type of program they're watching), between Classic/ POP/ Jazz/ Rock/ Personal.
BenQ's LCD TV also features quite a comprehensive set of connectivity options, which include HDMI, Composite video, Component video, S-Video, D-Sub, Scart, as well as the necessary analog audio inputs. Furthermore, the display also comes packed with an audio output, as well as a headphone jack, for private listening.
The VL4233 from BenQ retails for around 1950 US dollars, which is not that bad, taking into account the features and specs this thing has to offer.
My screen has gone black for no reason- just did it one day. When you turn the set on, there is a picture for 2-3 seconds, then black. What is the issue? sound is great. Please advise. Peter Robinson
