Beside being one of the world's best-known manufacturers of various computer peripherals, the Logitech company has also released, over the past couple of years, a very large number of audio-related product. And one of the most impressive such products is the Squeezebox Boom, launched back in the first half of 2008, a device which allows users to fully take advantage of their home wireless network and enjoy their favorite music services or Internet radios in just about any room around the house.
Thus, the Squeezebox Boom can connect to the SqueezeNetwork online music service, thus granting users access to numerous music – delivery services, such as Last.fm, MP3tunes, RadioTime, Radio IO and Live365. This is possible due to the fact that the device from Logitech incorporates a 802.11g wireless module with dual internal antennas for improved reception, but also because the Squeezebox
supports the most common file formats used by most online services, namely MP3, FLAC, WMA, WMA Lossless, AAC, Apple Lossless, WAV, and AIFF.
The audio-related features of the Squeezebox Boom are equally impressive. Thus, the audio entertainment system features 3/4-inch (1.9 cm) high-definition, soft-dome tweeters and 3-inch (7.6 cm) high-power, long-throw woofers. It has a bi-amplified design with high performance signal processor, class D amplifiers and digital crossovers, while the Stereo XL technology is touted as actually being able to widen the sound stage beyond the physical boundaries of the speaker.
The audio system has been equipped with 6 buttons for presets, which allow one touch access to favorite radio stations and playlists. Moreover, it sports a bright, high-contrast VFD display with ambient light sensor and automatic dimming.
Beside the aforementioned Wireless module, the Squeezebox has been fitted with other connectors as well, such as an Ethernet connector (in case there's no wireless network available), a line-in interface via 3.5 mm stereo jack and a headphone/subwoofer out via the 3.5 mm connector.
The Squeezebox Boom from Logitech sells for around 280 Euro (392 US dollars), which is not even that high a price, especially for those people who want to enjoy their online music service even while they're away from their computers. |
