The Dynaudio Confidence C1 is one bookshelf-type loudspeaker that's larger than the average units... in what both dimensions and sound are concerned. In fact, the C1 is pretty much the compact version of the big loudspeakers in the Confidence series, retaining all their great features but being designed to be used in smaller, more intimate spaces, where compromise-free audio quality is needed.
C1 is one of the pinnacles of audio design as it sports multiple characteristics you'd usually expect to find in much more expensive gear, from the uncanny design of the cabinet to the massive metal faceplate to which the drivers are affixed, the internal strutting and damping panels and the overall capability to output exceptional response with music and movies alike. The cabinet is made from both HDF and MDF panels, whose thickness ranges between 20 and 38mm in sandwich configuration.
The Dynaudio Confidence C1 runs with a 2-way architecture comprising a 170mm one-piece molded PP cone with a huge voice coil, 75mm in diameter, with pure aluminum wiring wound on a Kapton former and powered by a large neodymium magnet ring, capable of delivering both sparkling and naturally-midranged vocals and a bottom end reaching 45Hz, perfect for use in stereo installations without a separate subwoofer.
The other end of the audio spectrum is covered by a 28mm tweeter with a soft dome and ferrofluid-cooled, retaining the same pure aluminum wiring for the voice coil and adding the back chamber system for a better control of the sonic reproduction up to an SACD and DVD-Audio compatible 22kHz point. The HF unit is loaded in a 10mm aluminum-alloy frontplate for extreme decoupling from any vibrations that could interfere with its shimmering response.
The Dynaudio Confidence C1 can be placed on dedicated, optional stands or ca reside freely on shelves, furniture or even on the floor directly; it can drive sound to an 170W level, in 4 Ohms impedance with 86dB sensitivity, selling for around $6,000 per pair. |
