Elac is no newcomer in the loudspeaker industry; as a matter of fact, besides benefiting from a more than 80-years experience in the field, Elac have spearheaded the branch and have built some loudspeakers that still are milestones in the audio world.
Loved by many and envied by even more, these speakers have ended their commercial lives; but as some say “you cannot kill what doesn't die” - due to the high demands for certain coveted and most desirable series of Elac loudspeakers, the German manufacture has decided to re-issue some of them in limited editions, available through certain retailers only.
Hardly could another name suit better this amazing audio monument from Elac. The Elac Spirit of Music MKII is by far one of the most intriguing loudspeakers in the industry. Not sporting god-knows what kind of Sci-Fi – inspired shape, but rather a classic, pyramid one, the Elac Spirit of Music MKII is definitely one loudspeaker for a large room. Its 143cm height demands quite some room around it, while the floor space is somewhere around one square foot.
The tall pyramidal loudspeaker cabinet is made of wood and comes in titan, silver and classic cherry finishes. It sports a 5-way bass reflex make, with two180mm diameter bass woofers, one 180mm low-mid driver, one 115mm mid-range dedicated driver, one JET III tweeter and one 4PI circular ribbon tweeter.
This impressive array of sound sources ensures a very detailed and clear response, no matter the sound that plays: from 24Hz to a staggering 50kHz, the whole audio spectrum (and even more) is being covered for and sounds come from Elac's finest pieces of tech.
Elac recommends a min 50W per channel amplifier be used in conjunction with the Spirit of Music MKII, as its max power is at the nominal value of 220W but will easily handle up to 300W (short-time peaks). The Elac Spirit of Music MKII runs in 4 Ohms and sports a combined sensitivity of 90dB.
The Elac Spirit of Music MKII loudspeaker also features aluminium sandwich cones for all cone-based drivers, self-resetting fuse for optimal protection and port-blocking foam plugs. Selling for about $12,000. |
