For some people there just isn't enough bass on the face of the planet (or at least this is how they'd rather think): they are in a constant chase for more powerful, more round, more definite and precise bass while still desiring low distortion at high levels and all the characteristics of the audiophile-grade gear.

It's not sure they'll settle for Meridian, but Meridian has definitely produced something to make them at least think: the SW5500. The SW5500 subwoofer is what anyone would call a proper bass-machine: 2 12” (300mm diameter) drivers being able to deliver a total max of 300W with 0.01 to 0.02% distortion at almost any level.

These 2 speakers have been encased in a specially-designed 22mm MDF cabinet specially braced and reinforced to withstand the 110dB sound pressure level that the SW5500 is capable of producing. The frequency range is between quake-like 20Hz and a max of 400Hz, thus allowing the crossovers to comply with a lot of settings for various purposes.

Speaking of settings, one thing must be noticed relating the SW5500: since not everyone is fond of the latest digital technology and there are still a lot of people who entrust their analog equipment with providing their sonic pleasures, the Meridian SW5500 sports both SPDIF (digital coaxial) and analog inputs! This unique feature allows for technically interconnecting the SW5500 with almost any sound device: unlimited possibilities – it's the owner's choice.

Because the SW5500 sports dual woofers, when connected to digital inputs, you will be able to perceive more of the potential sound effects in your video or music due to the substantially richer sound coming from two speakers.

The SW5500 sports a variable low pass filter set to sweep between 40 and 150Hz and it comes already accessorized with feet, spikes and castors so you can freely choose your media room arrangement. Castors are really cool because the SW5500 weighs some 50 kg and literally carrying it around is not at all easy.

You can try to carry it as you like, after buying it for a reported price of approximately $5,800.
