For people who enjoy the DVD experience but don’t want to throw away your VHS tapes, Panasonic offers a combo DVD / VHS recorder that can record TV shows or transfer VHS content to DVDs. This pretty intelligent device is capable to write on all sorts of DVDs just like a conventional PC DVD writer – on DVD-R/-RW/-RAM/+R/+RW (dual layer too) or on CDs. I am talking about the DMR-ES46VS VHS / DVD Recorder.

In case you purchased a HD ready LCD TV or Plasma TV you should take a look at High Definition (1080i/720p) Up-Conversion that comes with the recorder. Practically, the DMR-ES46VS VHS / DVD Recorder can up-convert the DVD content that you are watching to 720p or 1080i resolution so you can enjoy the HD ready content on your HD ready Plasma/LCD. The DVD recorder can record programs with an amazing 500 line horizontal resolution which is twice as much a conventional recorder would produce in LP mode.

With a single push of a button all the content is saved on VHS tapes - movies recorded to tape are very common, and transferring them to  your own DVDs provides them with a higher lifespan.

As for playback, the DMR-ES46VS uses the progressive scan technique which will faithfully reproduce the image you are familiar with when watching a film in a movie theatre. That’s all folks; this handy device has all the abilities and characteristics to become your best friend when you do not want to miss a TV show. Oh, not to forget, it can also read SD cards, so gather around the TV if you want to visualize jpegs or tiffs on big screen.

How much you have to pay for it? Somewhere around 350 US dollars. Enjoy!
