Both audiophiles and engineers say that no matter how good and high-end your audio system might be, the moment you attach to it a bad center channel speaker everything goes down the drain. Indeed, there is much truth in this statement, especially as the modern production in both movies and music relies more and more on subtle multi-channel effects and even bass effects.
Much of the dialog in today's movies is dubbed on the center channel and more and more acoustic effects include this channel in their complex envelopes. Hence the need for a top-notch dedicated loudspeaker for the passionate audiophiles.
The Polk CSi5 is the high-definition solution for the top-shelf sound systems and it was matched and tuned to work in perfect conditions with both bookshelf or floor standing loudspeakers. Making the Polk CSi5 a part of your surround system will dramatically increase both the quality and realism of your audio but also the value and rankings of your audio gear.
The Polk CSi5 sports two 6.5” mid-range/bass woofers with Polymer Composite Dynamic Balance cones and rubber surrounds , cast basket and rubber surround, capable of producing both the penetrating mids needed for the crisp sound you like and the deep 40Hz bass which will fill the room.
The tweeter sports a 1” diameter silk dome and goes as high as 27kHz and it sports a special waveguide to spread the sound evenly across the room. The front grille is mounted in a float position so it does not create any diffraction effects to hinder the sound while the Mylar capacitors add more definition and presence to the high frequencies.
The CSi5 sports two cabinet technologies pioneered by Polk some many years ago. First of all, placing the cabinet atop or under your television/monitor is made by simply flipping the loudspeaker: it sports a slant edge that will angle it in the right position. Even more, the cabinet also features an Adjustable Kick Stand Prop to balance the speaker on your shallow-depth flat screen TV.
Polk CSi5 sports both PowerPort vents that ensure chuffing-free bass reflex air flow and at the same time it boasts another Polk patented technology, the Acoustic Resonance Control venting ports. They are front-firing and compensate for the potentially harmful mid-range distortions while the cabinet is magnetically shielded so the placement on or near your video monitor will not result in interferences.
Finally, the Polk CSi5 loudspeaker is also bi-ampable by means of the 5-way gold-plated binding posts; 90dB sensitivity and a maximal power of 200W make of it a pretty loud unit when needed. Working with 8 Ohms amplifiers, the Polk CSi5 sells for about $480. |
