The ESL-989 is another great electrostatic loudspeaker from Quad, inheriting pretty much of the specs and technical details of the ESL-988 model, but taking things a bit further, as the 989 is a larger unit, loaded with more sound-generating capabilities and being overall more powerful, suitable for larger-scale applications, in larger rooms.
In fact, Quad themselves declare that more than 90% of the ESL-998 is represented by completely new, enhanced, redesigned, upgraded or modified components; this cannot mean but only one thing: that the new loudspeaker, the Quad ESL-989, will look like the classic ESL 63 but will sound like nothing before – a new level of sonic quality is now at hand for the audio enthusiasts. Hence, we can definitely say that the ESL-989 is even more changed and improved compared to the initial base model, the 63.
The Quad ESL-989 now sports new transformers, a completely new power supply, more reliable and offering more precise operation conditions; the diaphragms have been improved as well and the front grilles and baseplate have been redesigned as well, all to offer better performance. Technically, the Quad ESL-989 is the result of more than 20 years of constant engineering strives which have regarded every aspect of these electrostatic loudspeakers; the Quad ESL-989 is today as much a leader in the specific industry as was its predecessor at its time; there simply isn't any other loudspeaker with similar technology to be able to cast a shadow on the glow of the Quad ESL-989.
The Quad ESL-989 sports a tilt support that allows for a backwards leaning of the speaker; this movement allows for a better sound dispersion in the room and a wider covered area. The Quad ESL-989 works in 8 Ohms impedance and this means that you will not have too much of a headache finding suitable amplifiers for there loudspeakers. The Quad ESL-989 is even more of a high-tech, high-end loudspeaker as it lacks the common problems usual loudspeakers must face: coloration, distortion, phase and frequency response errors. |
