The Sonance Merlot 422MR and 421MR may simply be the answer to your searches if you're looking to equip critically-small spaces with sound gear, and you are facing footprint and depth restrictions. These two in-ceiling loudspeakers are extremely handy because they require minimal fuss for installation and can provide you with quality sound despite their small dimensions.
While combining the convenient, small dimensions with the capability to reproduce a very serious acoustic response, the Merlot MR loudspeakers are most likely the premiere choices for projects requiring distributed audio spread over larger areas. At the same time, these loudspeakers are as well suitable for creating multi-channel surround sound home cinema systems in your very homes. Add in the affordable price and we get some units that can rival with pretty much most similar speakers and win.
The Merlot 422MR and 421MR sport a two-way architecture with a rather common driver complement based on a tweeter and a driver for bass and midrange. Both units have polypropylene cones for the woofers and sport rubber surrounds for a longer yet precise and distortion-free excursion. The LF response goes as low as 60Hz for the 422MR and 70Hz for the 421MR.
The tweeter is loaded in the middle of the LF driver for a more in-phase sound development and better sonic directivity; while the HF units boast a silk, 20kHz-capable dome, the 422MR's tweeter is placed on a pivoting bridge for better directivity. The Sonance Merlot sport woofers 4.5 “ in diameter while the tweeters' domes are 3/4” large. These loudspeakers run with 89-90dB sensitivity and 8 Ohms impedance.
The 422MR delivers as much as 60W RMS and the 421MR can handle max 50W. Prices run around $330 for the 422MR and $190 for the 421MR. |
