The Tannoy Ellipse 8 iDP is the kind of monitor solution which packs together both power, acoustic capabilities that will simply rock you off your chair and last but not least, a small size with a great look. Built on the heritage of other Tannoy monitoring solutions, the Ellipse 8 iDP boasts the blending of the traditional sound quality and the advanced technology features that take things to higher grounds: time-coherence is one of the most important aspects in this monitor as it allows the reproduction of true, natural sound, unaffected by distortions and permitting the listener to hear exactly what's to be heard in a sound source.
Not only does the very shape of the Tannoy Ellipse 8 iDP help breaking stationary waves but it also eliminates resonance and diminishes unwanted vibrations down to undetectable levels, without coloring the sonic response in any way. The moderate dimensions of the Tannoy Ellipse 8 iDP allow it to easily accommodate even in studios where space is at premium and larger units might become less comfortable; yet, despite its size, this unit can pull off a very big and articulate sound, rich in transients and with a flat, unaltered response.
The Tannoy Ellipse 8 iDP runs with an 8” Dual Concentric driver aided by an additional super tweeter. The DC unit sports a LF component in the body of a multi-fiber paper-pulp cone with nitrile rubber surround capable of resonating as low as 40Hz and providing a clean and crisp bass, with precise and - more important - true response. Coaxially loaded in the middle of this woofer, the DC unit sports a super-tweeter, in a Tulip WaveGuide for corrected spread and dispersion of the HF response, creating a point source sonic deployment array for natural audio.
This concentric-loaded tweeter combines its response with the additional tweeter's one; the second tweeter sports its own chamber, placed atop of the Tannoy Ellipse 8 iDP's cabinet and reaches a shimmering 50kHz upper limit, letting you fully experience the brittle of SACD or DVD-Audio tracks. The DSP engine inside the Tannoy Ellipse 8 iDP lets you run this monitor with both analog and digital signal up to 192kHz and it sports a dot matrix display for easy info on what's going on with your source. The Tannoy Ellipse 8 iDP blasts as much as 200W LF and 200W HF from its Class D amps. Selling for around $4,700 in master/slave configuration. |
