Descendant of the 8D monitor, the Precision 8 iDP from Tannoy is pretty much everything you could want as monitoring solution in a small studio: a near field unit running with some of the world's most advanced audio technology, made under a name needing no introduction. The 6iDP can be hooked to pretty much any production system, analog or digital, via AES/EBU on XLR; even more, the 8 iDP works in a master/slave network topology, with enhanced intelligent processing power and multi-purpose room control capabilities for unlimited hookup for 32-96kHz and 192 kHz digital systems.
The Tannoy Precision 8 iDP runs on a Dual Concentric driver combo with 8” diameter, consisting of two coaxially-loaded speakers, capable of delivering sonic reproduction with pin-point accuracy and impressive directivity. The LF unit has a multi-fiber paper pulp cone and rubber surround, driving sound as low as 43Hz for a true and rich bass, while the center-loaded super-tweeter is powered by extra-strength neodymium magnets and has a titanium dome, capable of effortlessly reaching an audiophile 51kHz frequency, fit even for monitoring SACD or DVD-Audio tracks. Additionally, the Precision 8 iDP sports one more super-tweeter, loaded in its separate WideBand faceplate, offering extended dispersion for its pristine response and helping the overall engulfing sonic response.
Both drivers are magnetically shielded so there will be no interference with the rest of the audio equipment in their vicinity. The Tannoy Precision 8 iDP produces 200W RMS for LF and 200W for HF, all coming from Class D amps, while the second Super-tweeter gets fed passively from HF. Tannoy Precision 8 iDP can reach a very serious 120dB peak sound pressure level and the front-panel also contains the 4-button controlled dot matrix display for easy info on processing specs. Price tags go around $1,650 each. |
