Over the past few years, the demand for portable projectors that can be easily carried around from one location to the next has reached a very high level. This is the reason why Toshiba has released, back in the second half of 2007, its TLP-WX2200U mobile projector, a device that can be used with equally satisfying results by either corporate of home users.
Thus, the TLP-WX2200U from Toshiba features 3LCD technology (0.56-inch panels), which allows it to attain a native projection resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels (WXGA). Furthermore, the size of the images projected by the WX2200U ranges between 30 and 300 inches, with the projection distance ranging from 4.2 to 32.4 feet.
It's also interesting to note that the projector supports 16:10 and 4:3 aspect ratios, but, unfortunately, features a rather disappointing contrast ratio (just 600:1). The F = 1.6 - 1.88, 18.84 – 22.61mm field of view lens sports a 1.57 – 1.89:1 throw ratio, as well as 1.2x manual zoom/manual focus. The light output here is above average, namely 2200 ANSI lumens, generated by a 205W lamp.
The device also offers a comprehensive set of connectivity options, including here Component, Composite, S-Video, RGB, audio RCA and stereo mini jack inputs, as well as several useful outputs: stereo mini jack, RGB, D-sub 15-pin. Furthermore, the projector has also been equipped with a speaker, although not a very impressive one (just 1W, mono).
Another very interesting piece of information worth mentioning about the TLP-WX2200U is the fact that it provides several anti-theft features. Thus, a removable palm-sized control panel on the projector is specially designed with a self-assigned password for theft prevention. When the control panel is removed, the projector is no longer operable unless the password is entered on the remote control or the removable panel is replaced. The TLP-WX2200U also offers password-protection and key-lock security functions to prevent any unauthorized usage.
Toshiba's TLP-WX2200U can be purchased for as low as 1,000 US dollars - a very good price, despite its apparently low contrast ration. When buying a projector, it is good to know that, unless the room it is used in is perfectly dark, the human eye can only perceive contrast rations up to 1:50. |
