Most of us have seen the benefits an
SSD drive can have over an HDD; fortunately for speed addicts, this technology is still in development. One of these developments is the new 1.8-inch Turbo PATA ZIF SSD that Active Media Products has recently made available through Amazon.
The producers boast some impressive percentages regarding the speeds that these new drives will be able to reach, like 25% faster read and 100% faster write, and that isn't all PR. What they have done is put a DRAM cache, which allows the Turbo ZIF SSD to perform better than other
SSD drives. For compatibility reasons with a large range of notebooks and netbooks, Active Media Products have produced three types of SaberTooth SSDs.
"The SaberTooth ZT removes the performance tradeoffs that have plagued slim 1.8" ZIF drives for so long. Now you can get a truly fast ZIF drive that still fits in a standard 1.8" form factor. By incorporating a DRAM cache, we've dramatically improved write speeds over other ZIF drives," stated Active Media Products' VP of Sales, Jerry Thomson.
Although Jerry Thomson was talking about the ZT series, which is actually the fastest, with 100 Mbps read speed and 85 Mbps write speed, these new SaberTooth can also be found with the
ZX or simply Z name tag. The Zs are available in the 16 and 32 GB sizes, the ZX will be found in the 32 GB to 128 GB sizes, while the ones mentioned above are only available in two different capacities, 32 GB and 64 GB.
The codenames on Amazon for the newly announced PATA ZIF drives are N32G-PATAZIF-ZT and N64G-PATAZIF-ZT, priced at $169.95 and respectively $299.95. They are easy to install on your current mobile computing system and come with their own screwdriver.
