Don't you sometimes get that feeling like your mobile device should be a bit faster? I mean at least 1GHz right? I know, I think so too. In fact I was quite upset the other day when my phone just couldn't handle all the programs I had opened in the background. And here is where
Samsung's 1GHz low-power application processors come in. Trying to offer PC-level performance to mobile devices, here are the S5PC110 and S5PV 210!
Each of the two ARM Cortex A8 based processors tries to target a particular area of the mobile field, with the S5PC110 being specifically directed at small form-factor connected devices such as smartphones, mobile Internet devices and so on and the S5PV 210 trying to offer a new solution in the larger field of portable computing such as netbooks, tablets and so on. Flexibility and performance really do seem to be their middle names!
According to Dr. Kwang Hyun Kim, senior vice president, strategic marketing team, System LSI Division, Samsung Electronics, “more and more, user generated content currently accessed via the PC will be spread to mobile devices. […] PC-level performance with lower power consumption will become mainstream requirements for advanced mobile devices. Samsung developed S5PC110 and S5PV210 application processors to satisfy these conflicting requirements to enable a new level of user experience not previously possible.”
Both processors feature a built-in
3D graphics engine that can render 1080p full HD at 30 frames per second and also feature HDMI 1.3 interface in order to connect with your HD TV or monitor. Seeing how samples will be made available starting December 2009, I don't think we'll be seeing these processors anytime in the near future!
