Without a doubt, one of the main selling points of the 27-inch iMac systems from Apple is represented by their very wide displays, which make them extremely useful for people working with a large number of applications that require plenty of desktop space. However, when the user's not actually working on the iMac, all the screen space goes to waste.
For this reason,
Belkin has just announced its new AV360 Mini DisplayPort Converter that
adapts the signal from an HDMI audio video source, such as a Blu-ray player, Xbox, PS3, or cable box, to a DisplayPort-compatible signal. The fresh converter supports high-resolution video and audio, allowing customers to display HD content from external devices on the 27-inch iMac.
According to Belkin, their converter accepts full 1080p signal, but provides only 720p to the iMac. The device also delivers stereo audio, and is HDCP-compliant.
Belkin’s AV360 Mini DisplayPort Converter for 27-inch iMac will be available in late June 2010 in North America, Europe, and Asia, and will sell for around 150 US dollars, which is a pretty fair price point, given how useful this thing could prove to be for all the Mac users out there. However, in order to make it work, they'll also require the Mini DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort Cable from Belkin, which is 1.5-meters (4 feet) long and included in the package (an extra cable sells for 30 US dollars).
