Yup, delayed

I don't know if you remember the article regarding the 27-inch iMacs having difficulties handling day-to-day use due to them sporting cracked screens on delivery, periodic flickering or loss of video signal but it seems the problems have turned out to be bigger than Apple expected, with new 27-inch iMacs seeing delays lasting for as long as two weeks. Of course, there is a lot of speculation being made and seeing how there aren't many pieces of news to be had today, this is what we'll be doing in the following lines.

It appears that the reason behind the problems is serious enough for neither Apple nor iMac resellers to talk about, even though there are indeed some units that have yet to show the symptoms so many users have mentioned on forums around the world. From a financial standpoint, this could not have come at a worse time for Apple considering that a lot of its orders will be delayed past Christmas and will affect its quarterly results, as well as disappoint a lot of buyers.

I for one find a sort of poetic justice in all of this. I mean, consider this: many (mostly American) users have spent a lot of money acquiring overpriced 27-inch computers, happy that they would finally come to be considered cool people by a small community and not only by their closest of kin when... surprise... the shipments are delayed due to their overpriced PCs being in the repair shop. It seems that price doesn't always mean quality, now, does it?

Just in case you are wondering, a 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo using iMac with 4GB of memory, a 1TB hard drive and an ATI Radeon HD 4670 graphics card with 256MB video memory starts at 1,699 USD. Need I mention the fact that I have seen Windows using PCs bearing a smaller price and double the power? Just saying...
