There's definitely no shortage of pico projectors or pocket size camcorders to choose from, but having one device that does both things is a far more interesting approach and I am happy to report that 3M thought much the same way when it designed the Shoot 'n Share CP40, camcorder projector hybrid.
Of course that combining two devices into such a small and stylish package wasn't the easiest thing to do so we have to give up some features like
Full HD recording, but, 3M approach is different and convenient enough to cut them a little slack so I won't insist on this aspect.
We do however get 720p recording capabilities, a composite input that allows you to connect all sort of devices to the CP40 in order to use the built in projector, 20,000 hours lamp life and the possibility of displaying images up to 65 inches in diameter.
However, the
projector's resolution and brightness are a bit on the low side since we are limited to 640x480 VGA and 12 or 14 lumens depending on whether or not the CP 40 is plugged in.
Although 3M doesn't provide us with any figures, I expect autonomy to also be on the low side since the 100mAh battery rating doesn't seem all that reassuring.
Unfortunately, 3M didn't say for how much the Shoot 'n Share CP40 will retail, although being a novelty item and all I don't expect this to come cheaply.
We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there.
