Curious as to how future TVs and monitors might look in terms of specifications? Well if we are to look at Intel's back yard, future TVs might be incorporating their new Intel CE platform with Adobe Flash 10 Player support as well as 3DF gaming capabilities. The newest Intel SoC (system on chip) processor was previously codenamed Sodaville and is currently known as the Intel Atom CE4100, first of its kind to be manufactured with 45nm technology.

“Traditional broadcast networks are quickly shifting from a linear model to a multi-stream, Internet-optimized model to offer consumers digital entertainment that complements the TV such as social networking, 3-D gaming and streaming video,” said Eric Kim, senior vice president and general manager, Intel Digital Home Group. “At the center of the TV evolution is the CE4100 media processor, a new architecture that meets the critical requirements for connected CE devices.”

Optimization of H.264 video and Flash-based content on my TV? Well bring it on, maybe that way the TV will actually serve its purpose instead of being a cool looking piece of furniture. I mean, how long has it been since most of you actually watched the tube? I know it's been ages for me. However, add Internet, 3D Gaming and Flash support and maybe the TV will be back in fashion.

“The architecture of Intel media processors provides a powerful and innovative platform to showcase Flash-based applications in a vivid way,” said David Wadhwani, general manager and vice president, Platform Business Unit at Adobe. “Flash Player 10 combined with the performance of the Intel media processor and its support for standards such as OpenGL ES 2.0 offers a compelling environment for Flash-based games, videos and other rich Web content and applications.”

I guess all we have to do now is wait and see how all this works out. I said it before and I will say it again: the year 2010 will be a very interesting one!
