One of the biggest challenges you have to face as a new parent is getting your baby to sleep through the night. Sleep experts have written dozens of books that detail proven methods to help your child sleep through the night, but, let’s face it, it’s not easy to remember the details of a book you read when it’s 4 AM and your baby is crying. However, you don't have to despair, as it seems there might be a solution to help your baby and yourself enjoy a good night's sleep.

4Moms, a small company from Pittsburgh, has created an interesting device to help parents train their children in lulling themselves to sleep. Essentially, the Goodnight Sleep Trainer is a specialized timer that keeps track of how long your baby has been crying, and recommends when it's time to start comforting them to sleep.

Adults, children, and babies, all wake up several times per night. There are five levels of sleep, all of which are required for our body and brain to function properly. We cycle between the four stages of deep sleep and a light rapid eye movement (REM) sleep. At the end of the REM portion of our sleep cycle, we naturally wake up briefly. As long as nothing in our environment alarms us, we drift back to sleep.

It’s a commonly held misconception that sleeping is like breathing, something we are born knowing how to do. As a new parent, nobody needs to tell you that’s not true, or at least, not the whole truth. While babies instinctively know how to sleep, they need to learn to fall asleep and establish good sleep patterns. Here is where the Goodnight Sleep Trainer comes into picture, to help you out.

The Goodnight Sleep Trainer requires three AA batteries in order to function, features audio alarm, visual alert, USB connector, LCD screen, power indicator and digital clock. You can actually purchase this device from various online deals for about 30 US dollars.
