It really look like this is a very big day for French company Archos, since it opted for an all-out launch of its most recent products, whether we're talking here about portable computing devices or portable multimedia players. So, we'll cover each of these new issues separately, starting with the ARCHOS 3, which has been officially introduced by Archos, but, sadly, with very few technical information to go with it.
What we do know is that we're talking about a touchscreen device, since the PMP comes equipped with a 3-inch tactile screen that covers its whole surface. Moreover, a new virtual wheel selector might also be involved, capable of providing a higher level of versatility during use, called by Archos a “new browsing sensation,” with one's favorite features being “only a spin away” at any given moment.
Additionally, despite not providing any exact figures regarding its form factor, the maker does mention the fact that the new ARCHOS 3 model is “extremely compact and lightweight,” with users having very little problems in carrying it around. Fortunately, it informs us that we're talking about an 8GB product, capable of storing up to 4,000 songs, while the battery life is not bad at all, of around 14 hours.
Other functions and features offered by this new touchscreen PMP include the voice and audio recorder, as well as the stopwatch and calendar functions, which should, at least theoretically, further enhance the portable player's overall value.
Unfortunately, no pricing or availability details have been provided, but Archos does say something about the “perfect price,” so it remains to be seen what this choice of words means for the French company. However, given this preliminary list of features, the price point should be a fairly affordable one, at least theoretically.
