Up until now, ultra-portable, pico projectors have been viewed as something of a curiosity, some advanced tech-toys, rather than full-fledged tools for carrying out presentations or watching movies while being on the go. However, things might change in the future, as the quality of the images displayed by such projectors increases, while pricing remains way lower than that of “true” projectors.
And one of the best examples of this evolutionary process is represented by AAXA's latest pico projector, the P2 model, which, according to the company's own statement, has been designed specifically for professional users. For this reason, the rather tiny device comes equipped with a new, ultra-efficient optical engine design, LCoS chip, and high-power LED to achieve a 33 lumen output at 800x600 resolution.
Moreover, the projector from
AAXA offers users an 1000:1 contrast ratio, a manual focus systems, as well as images whose diagonal size ranges between 7 and 80 inches. Professional features are a direct VGA connector supporting up to 1280x720 resolution for laptop connection, an infrared remote control, dual 0.5 watt stereo speakers, and on-board gamma correction. Additional features include AAXA’s MP4 player capable of decoding of video, audio, and images (MP4, MP3, WMA, AVI, WMV, JPG, GIF, TXT), 1GB onboard memory, and a microSD slot capable of reading up to 4GB cards.
Similar to most other
pico projectors out there, the device from AAXA touts a very tiny form factor, measuring 4.3 x 2.3 x 1 inches and weighing just around 260 grams. Additional accessories allow the P2 to connect to Apple iPhone/iPod, Microsoft Zune, Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP), and a wide range of cell phones from Nokia, LG, Samsung, and HTC.
Unfortunately, battery life is absolutely disappointing, AAXA saying something about just 35 minutes of playback, which is a lot less than anyone is willing to go for. Luckily, AAXA is also offering users a 70 and 180-minute batteries, but these are available solely as an option, costing extra with respect to the $349.00 one will have to pay for these things when they become available on the market, in mid-August.
