We've heard quite a lot from AIS lately, the company being pretty busy with pushing some of its new industrial-use touchscreen systems onto the market. And, in fact, this is also the case with the particular product you'll read about as follows, namely their low cost 15-inch Touch Screen Panel PC, which is powered by Intel's ubiquitous Atom CPU, at the same time being rugged enough to support the harshest conditions found in most industrial environments.

The Panel PC features a modular design that allows several mechanical mounting solutions including open frame, panel mount bezel, IP65/NEMA4 bezel, and rack mountable bezels. It features low power consumption, integrated touchscreen, and IP65 dust/water protection. The units are encased in a steel chassis, protecting the components from harsh industrial environments including shock/vibration, extreme temperatures, and excessive use.

As mentioned above, the device from AIS is built around an Intel Atom 1.6Ghz N270 processor, accompanied by an Intel 945GSE/ICH7M Chipset. The setup is completed by 1GB of RAM memory and an 80GB HDD unit. Plus, the Touch Panel PC utilizes an industrial grade LCD panel, 5 wire resistive touchscreen that measures 15 inches in diagonal and delivers a fairly good resolution, namely 1024x768 pixels.

Pricing for the 15-inch Touch Screen Panel PC from AIS starts at somewhere around 700 US dollars, which makes it quite a good solution for using in a variety of situations, such as automation control, HMI, testing equipment, process monitoring, kiosks and digital signage, as well as other applications that require non-stop operation. In fact, given the rather poor state of the economy nowadays, it's very likely that quite a few kiosk builders or systems integrators will be quite interested in a computing system that offers quite an extended functioning life, while not going way too high as far as the pricing is concerned.
