If you haven't lived in a cave for the recent year or so, you probably know that Intel is killing AMD on every market where the two giants are competing. You definitely know that NVIDIA is fighting with ATI for supremacy with both holding out pretty well (although, lately, NVIDIA has been the victor of many such fights).
Well, seeing how NVIDIA is waging an all-out war with Intel AMD, ATI found the perfect timing to complete its long awaited merger. And here it is, ladies and gents, as told by Dirk Meyer, AMD president and CEO, himself, “We are tightening our focus on delivering the winning products and platforms our customers want based on AMD’s industry-leading microprocessor and graphics technologies [...] The next generation of innovation in the computing industry will be grounded in the fusion of microprocessor and graphics technologies. With these changes, we are putting the right organization in place to help enable the future of computing.”
On a sadder note, the company also announced the departure of Randy Allen, senior vice president, Computing Solutions Group. Meyer had this to comment regarding his colleague's departure, “Randy has been an important engineering and business leader who has played a key role in many of AMD’s most significant achievements in recent years [...] We wish him well in his future endeavors.”
Without further ado, let me present to you the four operating teams as seen by Dirk Meyer's organizational genius. The products group will be led by Rick Bergman and will be responsible with delivering all of AMD’s platforms and products, as well as aligning both the graphics and the microprocessor product development teams into one group.
Chekib Akrout will be leading the Advanced Technology Group, Nigel Dessau is the leader of the Marketing group, while Emilio Ghilardi is the new head of the customer group, three groups that need no introduction. Hopefully, AMD will now have the right tools to give Intel a real fight.
