Believe it or not, ASUS has recently announced its latest gadget, and it's not “Eee Something. Codenamed the DSL-N11, its most recent and greatest creation is a hybrid modem that not only offers a 300gMbps Wi-Fi 802.11n router but also an ADSL2/2 modem for those who want an extra kick out of their virtual surfing experience.
Its fresh graphical user interface allows the user to install and manage a suite of programs to faster and easier set up and manage the different functions of the DSL-N11 modem. VPI, VCI settings and also Internet connection settings will be automatically detected via the Quick Internet Setup (catchy name, huh?). Information about network status, as well as how many wired and wireless devices are connected to the modem is offered to the user with the help of the Network Map.
Remember Dr. Mario? The DSL-N11 has Dr. Surf. Although not as cute and cuddly as everyone's favorite red hat (and that's not a Linux pun) wearing, dragon fighting, princess saving plumber, Dr. Surf will help you troubleshoot your connection issues while offering real-time diagnostics. This is achieved by offering a number of solutions to possible problems so that even those with less knack for the technicalities of computers can solve the most basic of network-related issues. Trial and error usually without the error part.
And now for the EZQoS, a service that allows the user to set priorities for different network operations from computer gaming to FTP site or voice calls. The entire user interface is called ASUS EZ UI and seems to live up to its name. As for connection interfaces, the DSL-N11 has four 10/100 Base-TX MDI/MDIX Ethernet ports and two RJ-11 ADSL ports. Pricing has not been released but I'm looking forward to finding something out soon.
