Since the new Core i3, i5 and i7 CPUs from Intel just made their official debut at CES 2010, there's been a full-fledged flood of notebooks and desktop computers based on these new CPUs, pretty much everyone in the business coming up with their own versions. And that's also the case with Acer, which has just released the
Acer Aspire AS5740 and AS7740 Series notebooks that fall exactly in the aforementioned category.
The new AS5470 and AS7740 Series
notebooks are powered by the Core i3-330M (2.13GHz) and Core i5-430M (2.26GHz) processors, accompanied by up to 4GB of DDR3 RAM Memory and up to 500GB SATA HDDs. Although the basic graphics configuration is based on the Intel GMA HD GPU, select models boast ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 or ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 graphics, which make them powerful enough even for viewing Blu-ray discs in fairly good conditions.
In terms of displays, the AS7740 Series boasts a widescreen 17.3-inch Acer CineCrystal LED-backlit TFT LCD with a true cinematic 16:9 aspect ratio, while the AS5740 Series comes with a 15.6-inch Acer CineCrystal TFT LCD with a 16:9 aspect ratio and full HD resolution. A wide array of ports, including HDMI, enable the laptops to support any PC or TV video format via a single cable, while four USB 2.0 ports connect to the latest peripherals and digital devices.
Integrated 802.11a/b/g/Draft-N Wireless and Gigabit Ethernet LAN provide fast access to email, the web and social networks, and both the AS5470 and AS7740 Series notebooks come with integrated media readers and Dolby-Optimized Surround Sound, Blu-ray and more high-quality graphics and Dolby-optimized surround sound, as well as a multi-gesture touchpad.
"As games become more lifelike and movies push the limits on special effects, more powerful and intelligent performance is required for a truly dynamic computing experience," said Preeta Anil, senior product marketing manager for Acer America. "Consumers wanting to enjoy all the latest digital media in a
mobile platform will appreciate the AS5740 and AS7740 Series. Featuring extremely fast processors and in select models, discrete ATI Mobility Radeon HD graphics and Blu-ray disc drives, these notebooks truly bring digital entertainment to life."
Pricing for the new Acer Aspire AS5740 and AS7740 Series starts at around 600 US dollars, but if you're really looking for a top-notch computing system, expect to pay a lot more.
