Since Nvidia's GeForce 400M mobile graphics solutions have been released the company has enjoyed a strong support from laptop manufacturers, Acer being the latest company to employ these new chips in its Aspire notebook lineup, the 3D Vision capable AS5745DG coming in as the star of the show.
Apart from this top of the range laptop,
Acer also updated the Aspire AS5742G, AS5745 and AS7745 lines with new Intel quad-core processors and Blu-ray drives while Nvidia's Optimus graphics switching technology is also available on selected models.
The Aspire AS5745DG also comes packed with the Optimus technology thanks to the GeForce GT 425M dedicated graphics chip, but adds a 15.6 inch, 120Hz LCD and active shutter glasses to the mix, together with a built-in IR receiver for a 3D gaming experience, although the display is limited to a rather low 1366x768 resolution.
Other features include 802.11a/b/g/n wireless, a 1.3 megapixel HD webcam and a 9-cell battery for a suggested retail price of $999.99.
But AMD graphics fans have also reasons to rejoice, the top of the line 18.4-inch Acer Aspire AS8943G notebook coming in with an Intel Core i7 Quad Core processor (i7-740QM) and 4GB or 8GB of memory while also packing a powerful
ATI Mobility Radeon 5850 graphics with 2GB of dedicated video memory, although it packs a similarly impressive $1,499.99 base price.
This beast of a notebook also supports dual hard drives and features an HDMI output, alongside a Dolby optimized Acer CineSurround sound system with five built-in speakers and dedicated subwoofer.
More price conscious buyers can go for the 17.3 inch Aspire AS7745 series, that also comes with ATI Mobility Radeon graphics, this time in the form of a HD 5650 solution, alongside Intel Core i7 processors, a maximum of 16GB of system memory and up to 1TB of storage.
