If you're looking for an interesting storage device to upgrade your laptop computer with, you're probably having a hard time choosing between a hard drive and a solid state drive seeing how both come with their very own pro's and con's. Well, here is a new player joining the battle for supremacy and it seems to be playing for the SSD camp. Meet the SaberTooth, Active Media Products' latest series of 1.8-inch PATA ZIF SSDs.

Perfect for upgrading your Inspiron Mini 12, Sony Vaio or any other netbook or notebook that can be outfitted with the SSD, the new SaberTooth ZX comes in two sizes, namely 32GB and 64GB, each being priced at 99 USD and 159 USD, respectively. What is the advantage of choosing SSDs instead of the regular Hard Disk Drives? Well, extremely fast operating system booting speed, almost instant load times for your applications, less power consumption, less noise due to the lack of mechanical parts and, of course, a more rugged and solid storage medium.

After all, no mechanical parts means you can get “jiggy with it” and get away with your SSD safe and sound too! Vice President of Sales at Active Media Products Jerry Thomson had a short statement to make, “Our new SSD selector guide makes it a breeze for users to find the best SSD for their mini PCs. It may be the web's most complete netbook SSD upgrade guide, and lists a few dozen netbook models that are compatible with the new SaberTooth ZX.”

As far as sequential read speeds go, they are situated in the 80MB per second area, while sequential write speeds reach 38 megabytes per second. Not bad, right? Well, seeing how SSDs are starting to be more common nowadays and the prices for such storage mediums are really dropping, I for one would hold my horses and see what else shows up. Then again, it is pretty hard to ignore the SaberTooth's roar, isn't it?
