Although seven-inch tablets seem to be gaining in popularity right now, there are still users that prefer a much bigger screen so the recently announced Nvidia Tegra packing Advent Vega will definitely seem like an interesting option to them, especially considering its low, sub $400, price tag.
Supposed to be available at Dixons (a major UK retailer) sometime during next week, this will actually come with a
10 inch touchscreen that supports a 1024x600 resolution, although a HDMI port will also be available so you can feast your eyes with 1080p videos if you connect this to a HDTV, the
1GHz Tegra chip being more then able to handle Full HD clips without any hiccups.
Moving on, we also get a 1.3 megapixel webcam, 802.11 b/g WiFi, a 3G SIM slot as well as the usual microSD expandability, Advent providing us with a 4GB card in order to expand the limited 512MB built-in memory.
This is indeed a nice addition since power users would have been limited by the small pre-installed memory, the
Android 2.2 operating system, that comes standard with the Vega, allowing them to install apps on the external SD slot, so no worries in that department.
Unfortunately, we don't know if the Vega will feature Android Market access, although this comes with a quite impressive battery life, Advent promising up to 6.5 hours of 1080p video playback.
But the best news about the Vega is its unsubsidized £249 price tag, that would translate to about $397 if this thing ever makes it to the US. (via
