Despite the adverse economic conditions, we've witnessed quite a constant flow of pico projectors arrive on the market over the past couple of months, pretty much all of these devices offering more or less similar features (as far as the projection capabilities are concerned, of course), the most important difference being represented by the design and the extras (such as multimedia playback) these things were able to provide.
And now, it's time for another pico projector to get an official unveiling, this time within the nexus of next-generation technology represented by the
IFA event. The product in question is the APLP 180P manufactured by AgfaPhoto, which is able to play a wide array of multimedia files without even being connected to a computer.
Similar to most other
pico projectors out there, the APLP 180P employs LCoS projection technology, being able to create an image with a size of up to 50 inches (about 127cm) at a distance of around 1.80 meters. Moreover, the device also packs an SD memory card slot, which can be used for viewing photos and videos transferred from camcorders or digital cameras.
The pico projector sports a sturdy, metal casing, which will protect he delicate components stored within while the user is on the go. Besides the projector itself, users will get within the sales package a table tripod, a remote control, software, an AV out and a USB cable, the last two items providing some pretty good clues as to what other connectivity options the pico projector offers.
Since we're talking about a very innovative and, most importantly, new
product, no pricing and/or availability information has been provided thus far, but given the increasing competition on this market segment, it's very likely that the AgfaPhoto APLP 180P pico-projector will be priced at somewhere in the vicinity of 450 – 500 US dollars, or the equivalent of this sum in Euro.
