For some people, building a complete home entertainment system is a fairly long process, which starts with a single component (usually, the HDTV) and builds up over time. However, that's not at all the case with one of the latest products from Akai, namely the AISS010 All-In-One Entertainment Unit, which offers users pretty much everything they need in order to enjoy a complete cinematographic experience right in their homes.
Of course, users will have to add their own HDTV; apart from that, they're pretty much set. And that's because this thing incorporates a DVD player compatible with the CD/ DVD/CD-R/CD-RW/MP3/WMA/VCD/JPEG/DIVX/MPEG4 formats, which is also capable of upscaling videos with the help of the included HDMI interface.
Moreover, the device incorporates an iPod docking station, used both for playing content stored on Apple's player and for charging its batteries. According to the vendor, you won't have to worry about compatibility issues, since this thing works quite well with all iPods out there. Additionally, the home theater system packs an AM/FM radio with digital readout, plus an LCD clock display and supports USB and card audio playing.
Connectivity-wise, the AISS010 is actually pretty good, since, besides HDMI, it also sports composite video, S-video, Y, Cb, Cr video outputs. The same can be said about its audio prowess, the device delivering 2.1 + 1 track power output (double sub-woofer) via the 4 x 4-inch and 2 x 5-inch bass speakers (40W + 2 x 20W, RMS 10% THD).
Other features worth mentioning about this AKAI all-in-one system include the automatic age lock and screen protection function, which is extremely important for parental control, as well as the fact that this thing comes with a remote control (which was to be expected, given the extensive number of functions it offers).
The AISS010 All-In-One Entertainment Unit can be found at Australian vendor Audion, among others, and retails for somewhere in the vicinity of 1,000 Australian Dollars (792 US dollars).
