Since the worldwide economy is still pretty much in the dumpster, the most important consumer electronics manufacturers are coming up with certain products designed specifically for the value segment, namely those budget-conscious consumers that are looking for more affordable products that can still deliver a satisfactory level of quality. And the latest company to release such devices is Altec Lansing, which has just announced the availability of two new models in its computer audio value lineup, namely the BXR1220 and VS2621.
According to the manufacturer, the new BXR1220 features a pair of compact satellite speakers with a unique cylindrical design and Altec Lansing’s Audio Alignment technology, which precisely balances the speaker drivers, enclosure and electronics for optimum sound. Thanks to its USB connection, the BXR1220 doesn’t require an AC outlet, making the system a very good accessory for a portable PC.
Moreover, the speaker is magnetically shielded and finished with chic titanium metallic accents, the BXR1220 offering easy-access level control and rich, authoritative audio from its 2-inch full range drivers.
Nevertheless, the flagship model of Altec Lansing’s new value series is the VS2621, a 2.1 subwoofer-satellite combination that provides 93db of sound pressure level. The subwoofer’s 4-inch side-firing driver provides low frequency response down to 45 Hz for realistic bass and surround effects, while the trapezoid-shaped satellites feature full range drivers that extend treble response out to 18 kHz.
Altec Lansing's new BX Series is already available in stores at a very pocket-friendly price point, namely somewhere in the vicinity of 20 US dollars, while the VS series is scheduled to arrive in mid-May and sell for $49.95. Besides the basic speaker systems, Altec Lansing has also introduced a new three-piece BXR1221 ($29.95 MSRP) audio system that builds on the BXR1220 with the addition of a compact, space-saving subwoofer, and the new VS2620 ($29.95 MSRP), which features a pair of trapezoidal mini-towers.
