As we've said time and time again over the past couple of months, it's very likely that 3D will become the next big thing in the area of home entertainment centers (or, to put it simply, 3D will be the new Full HD). We've already seen some of the biggest names in the display industry (the likes of Sony, Panasonic and Philips, just to name a few) experiment with
3D technologies, but it seems that startups are also working hard in order to get a seat on the Home 3D bandwagon, which is sure to skyrocket over the next couple of years.
So, according to
ABC News, it would seem that a US startup called HDI might have come up with its own competitor against the solutions provided by the much more powerful Japanese companies, in the form of a 100-inch home theater solution powered by lasers.
According to HDI's representatives, this very large home theater display not only delivers Full HD, 1080p resolution, but also manages to do so at a very impressive refresh rate, of around 1080 Hertz. Moreover, apparently, power consumption is also kept at a minimum, given the fact that each of these lasers requires only around 1W of power during normal operation (for a grand total of around 150 Watts).
Other details regarding this very impressive
3D laser system include the 16:9 aspect ratio, 300 nits brightness level, as well as a contrast ratio of around 1000:1, which is, in fact, well within the normal limits for this brand of devices.
Of course, all we can hope right now is that this company, HDI, will manage to stay afloat long enough in order to come up with a successful, commercially available solution, although, let's face it, its chances of success against the likes of Sony, LG or Panasonic are still pretty slim.
P.S. Unfortunately, since the video is an ABC Exclusive, you'll have to visit
their page in order to see the demo for yourselves.
