Ever since Amazon launched the
Kindle, it's been regarded as the eBook reader to beat by most of the other players on the market. However, over the past few months, quite a lot of other models made their way onto the market, the competition increasing and probably affecting Amazon's sales as well.
Given this situation, we were expecting the e-sales giant to make its move, and sure enough, it did, by cutting down the prices of the Kindle readers even further.
So, from now on, the Amazon eBook reader will sell for just around $189, down from $259. Quite an impressive drop, if you ask me, especially since we're talking about a very advanced device here (as some of you might find out by checking out our
review on this topic).
Of course, there's still no way of knowing just how this move will affect Amazon's overall market share, especially since the company's getting a lot of heat not only from other eReader / eLibrary combos (such as Barnes & Noble and their NOOK wireless ebook reader), but also from Internet Tablets. I mean,
Apple and its iBooks application, running either on the iPhone 4 or the iPad, are a pretty serious threat, don't you think?
