It sure has been a while since we've heard something from Amazon regarding their Kindle e-book reading device, don't you think? The company seems to have realized it as well since they have recently announced an application that will make a lot of Kindle owners quite happy, namely the 'Kindle for PC', which will allow users to basically continue where they stopped reading their book except they will be doing it on their PC instead of the Kindle.
Quite an interesting idea considering the fact that most of us put down our e-book reader and start using our desktop computer as soon as we get home. Why not synchronize those two devices and make it easier to pick up where we left off, right? Ian Freed, vice president,
Amazon Kindle, declared that “Kindle for PC is the perfect companion application for folks who own a Kindle or Kindle DX. […] Kindle for PC is also a great way for people around the world to read the most popular books of today even if they don’t yet have a Kindle.”
Readers will be able to purchase, download and read more than 360.000 books available in the Kindle store, they will be able to access their library of previously purchased Kindle books, will always know what page they were on because the app automatically adds and synchronizes bookmarks and last page read and they will be able to view notes and highlights that they marked on their Kindle DX.
As for
Windows 7 users, new iterations will allow them to turn pages with the swipe of a finger or zoom in and out by just pinching the screen. I'll leave you with Mike Nash, corporate vice president of Windows Platform Strategy at Microsoft:
“Customers have told us that they want access to a wider variety of content and an increasingly diverse set of form factors […] With the announcement of Kindle for PC, Amazon is making its massive selection of Kindle books available on the world’s most widely used platform. The new Kindle for PC’s use of Windows 7 features such as Jump Lists and Windows Touch demonstrates how Windows 7 makes new things possible.”
