We're not really sure just how many of you remember the Israeli company Amimon, who
developed, back in 2009, the WHDI chipset, which enabled the wireless streaming of 1080p/60Hz HD content. Well, the reason why we've brought them back to your attention is that they've taken wireless HD streaming to the next level, recently demonstrating a system that transmits 3D high-definition (HD) video wirelessly.
According to
Tech-On, this system employs the same WHDI chipset that powered the company's previous
wireless solutions and consists of a board for transmitting signals and a board for receiving signals. A BD recorder supporting 3D video is connected to the transmitting board via an HDMI cable. And signals are wirelessly
transmitted to the receiving board, which is connected to an LCD TV via an HDMI cable.
Both of the boards are equipped with Amimon's digital baseband chip and RF transceiver chip, which use the 5GHz band and can transmit data at a rate of up to 3 Gbits per second.
And the results were in fact pretty impressive, since they've apparently managed to transmit 1080p 3D video with a frame rate of 24fps by using the 5GHz band. Naturally, it remains to be seen just how soon they'll manage to come up with a fully-functioning product, but since they're about to roll out a wireless adapter that transmits 3D video (not HD, though), this wireless 3D HD streaming system will probably make its way onto the market in late 2010, early 2011 tops.
