Imagine the following situation. You're the manager or CEO of a fairly large company, but you don't always have the time to stop by your office, due to a hectic schedule. On the other hand, you feel that your presence is required in quite a lot of situations, and that a simple call (even a video one) or email will simply not suffice.
In that case, you'd be extremely interested in the Anybots QB telepresence robot, a device that can easily “translate” one's personality just about anywhere around the world, in a very fast and easy manner. And don't worry, you won't have to get yourselves hooked up in one of those Avatar-like machines.
So, what do these telepresence robots offer? Well, according to their manufacturer, they deliver high quality audio and clear, stabilized-video for a great interactive experience, while in the same time being able to “run” on two wheels at 3.5 mph to keep up with groups of people. The device is battery-powered, and a full charge will provide roughly 8 hours of functioning time.
Although they look rather...flimsy, the Anybots robot is apparently very safe, its two wheel drive preventing it from damaging walls or other objects. Furthermore, the built-in collision avoidance technology guides the Anybot around obstacles, such as doors, while the fact that it's fairly lightweight (just 35 pounds) makes it fairly easy to carry around.
Trevor Blackwell, Founder & CEO, Anybots, has this to say about the company's products: “Anyone who has ever wished they could be two places at once will appreciate the Anybots avatar experience. Turning the headache of a busy travel schedule into a one-click commute will change the way work and collaboration happens. The Anybots team and our early beta customers have all found teleporting into a location to be such a convenient and enjoyable experience – it'll be fun to see how the rest of the world uses the product.”
Unfortunately, not many people will be able to afford such a product, since the Anybots QB mechanical avatar sells for a whopping $15,000.
