As the whole world pretty much expected, Apple has brought forth quite a lot of novelties at its fall event that took place only a couple of hours ago, most of them being related to the iPod and iTunes eco-system, the company's real money-maker for quite a long period of time.

And one of the most expected new products was the new iPod touch, a slimmer version of Apple's touch-controlled portable media player that, however, follows along the same path established by the company from Cupertino a while ago, as it features more or less the same configuration as the iPhone 4, sans the mobile phone capabilities.

So, the new PMP comes packed with a very large number of attractive features, including here Retina display, FaceTime video calling, HD video recording, Apple's A4 chip, 3-axis gyro, iOS 4.1 and Game Center.

While we won't go into too many details regarding at least a couple of these features (simply because they're identical to those on the iPhone 4), we will have to mention that the new iPod touch comes with iOS 4.1, that enables new features like FaceTime video calling, multitasking, folders and Game Center.

Plus, Apple's already famous A4 chip will do a very good job at providing the necessary computing power for whatever the user might need, whether we're talking about FaceTime video calling (working with both other new iPod touch players and the iPhone 4), gaming, movie recording and editing, accessing the Internet, etc.

Also, battery life is quite OK, as the new iPod touch features up to 40 hours of music playback and seven hours of video playback on a single battery charge.

"We've put our most advanced technology inside the new iPod touch," said Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO.

"Whether you're listening to music, playing games, making FaceTime video calls, browsing the web, capturing HD video or watching TV shows and movies, the new iPod touch with its Retina display, A4 chip and 3-axis gyro is more fun than ever," Mr. Jobs added.

The new iPod touch will be available next week for a suggested price of $229 (US) for the 8GB model, $299 (US) for the 32GB model and $399 (US) for the 64GB model.
