The whole world had its eyes turned towards Apple yesterday, hoping for some important announcements to come during the company's “Rock and Roll” event, especially since Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO, was going to take center stage again. And, sure enough, he made an appearance, but, as far as we're concerned, the announcements were far from what we had expected.
The best example is what really seems to be the most important product released yesterday, namely the 5th generation (5G)
iPod nano portable multimedia player, which now features a video camera, mic and speaker. However, what's really strange about the respective camera module is the fact that it can only record videos, which can be then uploaded to video sharing services when syncing to a computer.
Apart from this rather strange decision by Apple (which, however, it's most likely just software-based), the new
nano has suffered some modifications as well, compared to the previous model. So, the display has also been improved, the 5G featuring a larger 2.2-inch that works both in portrait and landscape modes, while the polished aluminum and glass enclosure makes the portable player more attractive than ever.
Furthermore, the new
iPod nano also sports a built-in pedometer, allowing users to keep track of the steps taken and calories burned, as well as an FM receiver, for tuning into one's favorite radio programs. Additionally, the battery seems to have undergone some improvements, Apple claiming that the new nano will be able to provide up to 24 hours of music playback or five hours of video playback on a single charge.
It's also worth noting that the nano 5G will be available for starters in two storage options, namely 8GB (which can hold up to 2,000 songs, 7,000 photos, eight hours of video and seven hours of captured video) and 16GB, which represents enough space for storing up to 4,000 songs, 14,000 photos, 16 hours of video and 14 hours of captured video.
Those of you who are just dying to get their hands onto a video-enabled iPod nano won't have to wait much longer, since the new iPod nano is available immediately for a suggested price of $149 (US) for the 8GB model and $179 (US) for the 16GB model in silver, black, purple, blue, green, orange and pink.
