AMD's unveiling of their new Vision platforms for 2010 will certainly bring about a host of related announcements, all of the PC manufacturers who collaborate with the CPU/GPU manufacturer probably having quite a few products ready to roll out. And Acer seems to be quite ahead of the pack, since it showcased at Cannes quite a few new products based on the 2010 Vision platform, including the company's first AMD-based netbook, the
Aspire One 521.
Luckily for us, we've been able to get our hands on some live photos from the site, which depict a very slim and slender 10.1-inch ultra-portable system, likely to pose some serious competition for its
Intel-based counterparts.
As you can see from one of the photos, this new Acer netbook is built around AMD's V105 mobile CPU, a part of the CPU/GPU manufacturer's V Series Processors for notebooks. The CPU runs at 1.2 GHz, has a 512KB L2 cache, just 1 core and the maximum processor to system bandwidth is set at around 17 GB/s.Plus, it requires a very low amount of power in order to function, since its TDP is restricted to just 9W.
The Aspire One 521 sports an LED-backlit display, fully capable of delivering high-definition images, packs 1GB of DDR memory and an 160GB HDD. Furthermore, it comes equipped with an HDMI interface, plus a built-in Wi-Fi module and an advanced touchpad, capable of supporting multi-touch gestures. The whole thing is powered by a 6-cell Li-Ion battery; unfortunately, no details on the estimated functioning life have been provided thus far.
Unfortunately, pricing and availability
details have not been provided for the moment, but since we're eagerly waiting for an Acer official statement in the coming hours, it's likely that we'll find out more on this topic as soon as possible.
