Say you're leaving the city for a while and have no one to check on your house from time to time or just don't feel secure enough to leave it like that. What do you do? Well... I will tell you exactly what: get the Astak Mole, a motion-activated IP
webcam that comes with WiFi, as well as wired Internet connections so as to accommodate any type of network connectivity. Interesting enough to be worth a closer look, don't you think?
Jason Hsia, CEO of Astak, stated that “The Mole will redefine home and business surveillance, and it also opens the door to using a remote
camera for sharing unattended video, since it’s Web 2.0 ready. […] Internet citizens are already uploading over 20 hours of video to YouTube every minute. When interesting or important events are underway, you can’t always be there to see or record them in person. That all changes with the Mole, where motion-detected events can be auto-uploaded to YouTube and a tweet auto-sent to your Twitter feed.”
Quite the little device, this one! However, I don't know whether setting it up so it automatically updates videos onto YouTube or Twitter is such a good idea. I mean, who knows, maybe you come back early, a bit woozy, with a lady by your side and forget to turn off your cam. Would you like the videos to be shared on YouTube, Twitter or any other social networking site for the matter? I would venture a guess that you would not!
Of course, you could always make it so it sends videos into your computer or mobile phone and you would be safe from other prying eyes. The Mole is extremely easy to set up and will be made available in early November 2009. As for the price, 299 USD is what you'll be paying for the device, should you want to acquire it.
