While Asus is traditionally associated with the field of computing, manufacturing an absolutely huge range of computer components, computing systems, notebooks and netbooks over the years, it's also managed to come up with quite a few interesting accessories for the aforementioned systems. And the latest such products to be unveiled by the Taiwan-based giant are the uBoom and uBoom Q sound-bar speakers, its first ever multimedia speaker series.
Both the
ASUS uBoom and uBoom Q sound-bar speakers are designed to bring ease of use and convenience to users while on the move. They are 50% smaller than conventional 2.1 speaker set-ups and connect directly to the back of the notebook via USB 2.0. They effectively replace the onboard sound with a high fidelity codec for enhanced audio enjoyment.
The
ASUS uBoom Q (which measures 290mm x 110mm x 72mm and weighs around 400 grams) also draws its power from the same USB 2.0 port, effectively eliminating the need for a power adapter, wires and cables, further reinforcing its mobile audio entertainment capabilities. The uBoom is less portable, though, measuring 595mm x 135mm x 90mm, weighing around 3 kilos and requiring a power adaptor in order to work.
Furthermore, the
speaker systems sport specially designed maze-like reflex ports, being able to deliver very good quality bass, while powerful satellite speakers place users in a sweet spot of high fidelity sound.
While these two speaker systems have quite a lot of things in common, there are also some differences worth mentioning. The impedance, for example, is of 4 ohms in the case of the uBoom, and 5 ohms in the case of the uBoom Q, while the frequency ranges also differ (R/L 100-20KHz, Woofer 20-250Hz in the case of the uBoom and R/L 150-15KHz, Woofer 20-500Hz in the case of the uBoom Q).
Unfortunately, Asus has not provided any information regarding just when we should start looking for these things on the market, nor about just how much we'll have to save in order to get them.
