Asus keeps inventing (and later presenting at technology events like CeBIT) all sorts of gadgets that will help us in the communications department. I am not talking about portable computers here and not even about mobile phones, but of an older model of phone that they that they built some time last year. This internet calling device was seen by Alex at CeBIT and taken out for a quick chat, which has proved to be what we like to call “a success.”
This Asus Videophone the company entitled AiGuru SVIT is not the best looking phone out there. Fatty's (as I’d like to call it) looks are “so last year” if I may say so, but at least it can fit a 7-inch touchscreen on the immense cartridge.
Not all models of this phone are pink, thankfully, and I say thankfully because Alex told me that Fatty is a guru in internet phone calls. It works with
Skype, which makes it an easy-to-use machine and with its interface featuring large icons, there is really no way this phone can complicate your calls.
Also, the AiGuru doubles as a photo frame, like some
DECT phones we have seen on the Japanese market this month. Simply connect your USB to it and attach some pictures to please your eyes when they are not browsing through your Skype contacts list.
The Skype calls on this phone will work smoothly and I mean that in an audio/video way, either through a wired internet connection, or via a wireless one. The range of wireless calls is of 50 meters but producers warn us that it can depend on the operating conditions. The wireless tech it supports is 802.11 b and g.
It supports both SkypeOut and SkypeIn
phone calls through an internet number, which means you can call mobile phones from the AiGuru or receive some calls from other people through the Skype service. Pretty cool.
You can also do some call forwarding from it, make conference calls as a guest. Plus, the Skype Voicemail service is supported. I am sorry for calling this videophone Fatty, the Guru name really fits it better. I'm not giving it ten points for design, but the practical aspect of a phone seems pretty well covered.

We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed. Interesting links are bound to be posted with recognition going mainly to those who submit. The address is
