Since its release, Intel's highly successful Atom platform has seen a considerable number of design wins, ranging from portable PCs to home servers and more. However, just when you thought you had seen everything, we stumble upon a simple, yet interesting new design from Stealth Computer.
The WPC-500F computer system is the kind of PC that can be left in the rain and it will even enjoy it, as it is specifically built to withstand the potential damage created by water. Built around one of Intel's currently shipping Atom processor, this computer system aims at providing users with a choice for a low-power water-resistant PC.
As far as technical specifications go, this waterproof PC is much like every other Atom-based nettop that has been released on the market. It boasts a dual-core Atom 330 1.6GHz processor with 2GB of DDR2 RAM memory, 80GB 5400RPM 2.5-inch hard drive and Intel's integrated GMA 950 graphics accelerator. There's also an onboard Gigabit Ethernet controller, just one USB 2.0 port on the rear panel, wall mount bracket and a choice for Windows Vista, XP or Linux operating systems.
The interesting thing about this Stealth PC nettop is that it has been built inside a rugged aluminum chassis, offering a completely sealed water, dust and debris proof enclosure. As it takes advantage of a fanless design, the system's chassis acts as a heatsink to cool the system components, at the same time protecting the system from external interference.
We have no details on pricing and availability at this point in time, but if you are interested in what you can do with an Atom platform and a really sturdy enclosure, be sure to watch the video below. You'll get to see just how waterproof the WPC-500F desktop PC really is.
