Although it looks pretty much like your everyday tablet, Avaya's latest device is more of a video communications and collaboration gadget that is targeted towards enterprises than an iPad alternative.
Designed to replace the SIP phones used in many large companies, this tablet supports multi-user video conferencing, e-mail and web browsing while also coming with support for Android applications since it is based on Google's mobile operating system.
Although Android is the OS of choice, Avaya's table comes with a heavily modified interface that doesn't resemble anything I have seen before, called the “Flare” UI, allowing users to search trough a virtual rolodex for contacts or call them by simply adding their contact to the center of the screen.
User can also send IMs to one another, check messages, schedule meetings and appointments, and receive alerts or reminders, social networks being also supported, the Flare demonstration video showcasing an Facebook app.
Hardware wise, this tablet comes in with a trio of USB 2.0 ports, WiFi, 3G and 4G connectivity as well as an integrated battery so this can also be used in a conference room or when you are on the road.
Pricing wise, this 11.5 inch will come in between $1,500 and $2,000, so this won't be a cheap upgrade from PIP phones, but the extra functionality is well worth it. (via engadget)
