As we all know only too well, Apple has opted to go for an iPhone OS-inspired operating system for its iPad Internet tablet rather than for a port of the company's equally-famous desktop and notebook-operating system, Mac OS X.
Nevertheless, users who still dream about an Internet tablet running Mac OS X will now be able to actually get one, albeit not from
Apple, but rather from a company called Axon Logic.
The device in question, called the Haptic tablet, comes equipped with a hidden EFI partition, meaning that it will allow users to run Mac OS X on it without too much trouble and tinkering involved.
Unfortunately, though, don't expect an amazing usage experience, since this
tablet has some pretty “weak” specs, not unlike those of a netbook.
So, even if the Haptic does come equipped with a 10.1-inch touchscreen display (1024 x 600 pixels resolution), the rest of the specs are not particularly impressive, namely 1.6 GHz Atom N270 CPU, 2GB of RAM, a 320GB hard drive, a 1.3 megapixel webcam, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, 3G, a card reader, three USB ports, and a removable 3000 mAh battery.
Naturally, beside the operating system from Apple, users should be able to install equally easy on the Haptic either
Windows 7 or Linux, with some slight performance improvements (especially in the latter case).
Anyway, pricing for the Axon Logic Haptic Internet tablet is set at a cool 750 US dollars, which is far from being a very small sum, all things considered (after all, you'll also have to cough up a little extra in order to purchase the OS licenses).
