Baseball is a very popular sport with millions of fans and that it is all thanks to the players who are continuously training and improving in order to give the audiences a greater show. It is also popular because of the scandals that were still caused by players who had bent the rules and so on, but I don't want to go into those details, because the invention right here is one designed for the true athletes that are always out there fighting with every breath for the beauty of the sport.
A few students at Northeastern University engineering school are working on a project to build
a special shirt which provides general health information about the players. Especially for the pitchers in baseball, who very often suffer elbow injuries that come with many unpleasant side effects. The players’ morale, if not their entire career, might be put in danger, not to mention the huge financial losses that come afterwards for the player, and eventually for their team as well.
The shirt can log
vital data about the pitcher's fatigue levels and general mechanics. This information is stored onto a computer in real time and from here come the miracles that this
technological improvement can do for the sport and the players. The trainer can see the fatigue levels of pitchers, prevent them from injury and even replace them for the quality of the show.
Because the whole system is now wired, the three students at
Northeastern University are working on developing a wireless version of this shirt.
Ecouterre has more details about the whole mechanism behind the shirt, but let me tell you that it involves motion sensors and a web of conductive threads, which do not interfere with the motion of pitching. It is even machine washable, which means it can be applied sooner than we think.
We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there.
