I'm pretty sure that there are a lot of people out there who've at least once run out of power on their iPod or iPhone exactly when they needed it most, with no chance of recharging it, due to the fact that they were too far away from any power source. However, in order to help drivers cope with such issues, Belkin has come up with a couple of very useful car accessories, namely the Micro Auto Charger and Dual Auto Charger, which should prove to be quite useful in keeping one's Apple devices charged at all times.
The Micro Auto Charger is packaged in a compact design and adds no extra bulk to one's dashboard. The Micro Auto Charger allows room on its lip for users to easily detach it from the dashboard and also charges at 1 amp - ideal for iPhone devices and certain GPS systems in that it will charge at the device’s fullest power. Furthermore, the Micro Auto Charger is available both “as-is” and together with a special Charge Sync Cable for iPod and iPhone, with a length of 3 feet (0.9 meters).
On the other hand, the Dual Auto Charger offers drivers two USB ports, allowing them to charge two different devices simultaneously. First of all, there's one quick-charge port that powers at 1 amp (for the iPhone), while the second port (normal-charge) has a 500-milliamp output and will support iPod devices and cell phones. In this case, the Charge Sync Cable for iPod and iPhone is included in the package.
Now, for some pricing and availability details. According to Belkin, the Micro Auto Charger will become available in May 2009 and will sell for either 15 US dollars (without the sync cable) or 20 US dollars (with the synch cable). The Dual Auto Charger, on the other hand, is already out, and those drivers who want to purchase it can do so for around 30 bucks a pop.
