Despite the fact that his name is relatively unknown to a large number of people, Klaus Rosburg is an award-winning, commercially successful industrial designer and a principal of Sonic Design Solutions, a New York-based design studio specializing in the development of consumer electronics, appliances, medical equipment and structural packaging.

The latest creation of the aforementioned design studio is the Blister Radio, especially developed for the Greener Gadgets competition, aimed at generating design innovations for consumer electronic products. Even though the radio's aspect doesn't tell you too much, the Blister Radio is truly special, in the way that it is in fact a solar-powered gadget, made of PLA. For the uninitiated, PLA is biodegradable, thermoplastic, aliphatic polyester got from renewable resources like cornstarch and sugarcane.

This device is just made to tickle your senses in a green way. Made from PLA, a biodegradable thermoplastic polyester developed from plant sources, this radio is powered by the solar panels installed at its back panel.

Unlike numerous other green gadgets, the Blister Radio isn't attractive from the perspective of the design, as it basically looks like separated electronic pieces have been put together, forgetting to actually add an enclosure. Nevertheless, this is not the point, as the device's efficiency and ecological factor go beyond the design matter.

However, there might be a tiny drawback to it. Gadgets solely dependent on solar energy don’t have much of a practical value, unless their batteries are just like a watch that remains powered for long on a single charge. So, if this is not the case for the Blister Radio, you'd better hope for as much Sun as possible if you want to listen to your favorite stations.

This device is only a concept for the moment, and there is no information on whether it will enter production or not. That will probably be decided according to the feedback got from the Greener Gadgets competition, taking place on February 27.
